Lincolnshire

Lincolnshire is a wonderful area for walking, cycling, horse riding or touring by car. There are leaflets on display in our tourist information area to provide many interesting and varied routes.

Salmonby is surrounded by the picturesque villages of Tetford, Somersby (Tennyson's Birthplace), Belchford (Famous for the Downhill Challenge), Greetham, Bag Enderby & Hagworthingham to name but a few.

Lincoln is 25 miles away and in the Bailgate area is the magnificent cathedral which is built on the highest point. The nearby castle built by William the Conqueror is also home to the Magna Carta. The area between these buildings is the site of the famous Christmas Market held annually in December. Look for Brayford Pool and Wharf and sit and rest a while watching the world pass by.

Louth, 10 miles away and Horncastle 5.5 miles are both market towns and well worth a wander around the shops.  Horncastle in particular has plenty of antique shops to spend many an hour in.

Alford is 10 miles away at the start of the coastal plain beneath the Wolds. Visit the windmill and the Manor House, both open to the public. Alford regularly hosts craft fairs and folk festivals.

The coastal restorts of Skegness and Mablethorpe offer a diverse range of entertainment for both young and old and November is  good time to visit Donna Nook to see the seals 'pupping'.

Aviation enthusiasts may wish to visit the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby, The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby or RAF Digby and Metheringham.
Cadwell Park racing circuit is 6 miles away and they have a good programme of events throughout the year.

There are many golf courses nearby including the National Golf Centre, the HQ for the English Golf Union in Woodhall Spa.
For horse racing enthusiasts, check out the fixtures at the nearby Market Rasen Racecouse.
